Welcome to the Family Support Services website. We believe that it is important for parents to know about and be involved in their child/ren's education, so we post monthly information about classroom and after-school activities.
Chestnutwold Kindergarten Extended Day News
During May we will be working “down on the farm.” It’s an exciting month and we’ll be spending it discussing the duties of the farmer, and learning about farm animals and the products that are grown on the farm.
We will then travel from the farm to the ocean for our final unit of the year. We will study the different parts of a fish and the many kinds of wonderful creatures that live in our seas.
To celebrate the year’s end, we will be having a performance together with the kindergarten classes called Down on the Farm. It will be help on Friday May 21st at 10:30 a.m. All students are welcome to attend!
We will be sure to keep you posted with more details. On the day of the performance there will be no PM Kindergarten, however PM Extended Day will be in session.
We have enjoyed learning about many famous artists throughout the year, and to celebrate our knowledge we will take an imaginary bus trip to a museum. The children will have to guess the artists who painted the works of art in our museum. We will also learn how to use our manners in a museum by speaking with quiet voices and refraining from touching the art.
Just a reminder, if you have not sent in your Flat Stanleys please do so. The students really enjoy seeing where Stanley has visited!
Some important dates to remember are:
Friday May 14th – 11:30 Dismissal
Tuesday May 18th In-service day – open for “School Closing Package” only
Friday May 21st – Farm Show @ 10:30
June 21st - the last day for all Kindergarten students
It is hard to believe that the year is coming to an end. We have had a wonderful time working with each and every student. I am sure that everyone can agree that the students have all come so far since the beginning of the year. We are so proud of all of them.
Extended Day at Chestnutwold wants to wish everyone a safe and fun-filled summer. See you next year.
Sincerely,
Jean Shanahan, Site Director
Stephanie Boyd, Teacher
Chestnutwold Extended Day After School Program News
In May we plan to continue to do “Improv” games like Possum and Bippidy, Boppedy Boo. Then in June we will be starting an A cappella singing group.
In addition to our acting and singing groups, Miss Claire will be gathering a small dance troupe together and will be choreographing dances for the students. We have not yet come up with a name for the group – we’re still in the planning phase.
We are also continuing with our yoga classes.
Miss Rebecca will start a nature club in May and June. Many of our students are interested in bug and plant life, and we are getting together all kinds of fun projects involving the natural world that surrounds us. We continue to play sports such as soccer, dodgeball, and basketball with Mr. Chris.
Towards the end of the school year we will have a "Sundae Day," during which the kids will make their own special sundaes with a variety of toppings.
For those children who love art, Miss Rebecca , Miss Kathy and Miss Mariel continue to make purses with the children, and will be doing different arts and crafts that involve sewing (using safe plastic needles), crocheting, and knitting. We’ll also be doing paper arts, drawing, painting, and sculpting.
As we head towards summer, it's hard to believe the year is drawing to a close. We have been outside enjoying the warmer weather whenever we can. We still have our special hand-made snacks on Fridays and will continue to provide a wide range of activities for your children right up to our closing day in June.
Many thanks to this year's talented and dedicated staff, our wonderful students and supportive parents! See you next year!
Sincerely,
Rebecca Saatdjian, After School Program Director
