Welcome to Family Support Services’ School-based Childcare for children attending Kindergarten through Fifth grades in the Radnor and Haverford townships.
Family Support Services Inc.’s (FSS) mission is to help families with infant, preschool and grade-school children. Recognizing the need for safe, education-oriented, and high quality child care, FSS began providing fee-for-service, on-site, school-based child-care in Radnor Township School District in 1982, expanding to the Haverford Township School District in 1987. All programs are state licensed.
Kindergarten-only programming
FSS offers a morning or afternoon extended day kindergarten program for Kindergarten children that complements Haverford and Radnor School District curricula and schedules. There are two certified and experienced teachers in each extended day kindergarten class. We use a “learning center” approach that allows children to explore a theme through teacher-designed centers which may focus on math, science, art, or writing. Children will move from center to center during the day, encouraging the development of independence, self-motivation and curiosity. Some of the topics covered from year to year have included space, geography, National Children’s Book Week, measurement, and fairy tales from around the world.

Before and After School Programs for kindergarten-grade five children
Children attending the Before and After School programs participate in arts and crafts, free play, sports, supervised activities, outdoor play and a supervised homework period. Over the years we have developed a homework policy that we think makes life a little easier at home and in class. Click here to download our homework policy (PDF, 13K).
Accreditation
Family Support Services was awarded national accreditation for three sites by the National School-age Childcare Alliance (NSACA) after a rigorous evaluation process. Currently we’re working on the Keystone Stars Pennsylvania state accreditation process. Everyone plays a role in the evaluation of a program and we are happy to say that our parents, teachers, children and other community members have lent a helpful hand. We would like to thank the members of our community who have helped us create excellent extended-day, before-and-after school, programs for elementary school children in the Haverford and Radnor school districts.
