Welcome to the Family Support Services website. We believe that it is important for parents to know about and be involved in their child/ren's education, so we post monthly information about classroom and after-school activities.
Manoa Kindergarten Extended Day News
Given the winter weather we had this year everyone is enjoying our sunny and mild May days. It will be a busy month with Mother's Day activities, crafts, and a book we plan to write about our Mothers.
Our science investigations into water continue, and we will also test other types of matter, like wood and metal, to observe how magnets, wood, and metal might interact.
Our classroom will become a veterinarian's office for our pets as we study what kinds of things keep pets healthy and happy. And as a fun highway design project we plan to paint and decorate some wooden cars and then design roads and ramps for them. Towards the end of May, when we begin to think of vacation, we will explore some of the children's favorite vacation places.
Our yearly show is scheduled for June 11th and we are preparing for it a little bit each day. Other June activities include making a Father's day gift and composing a poem.
Kindergarten students at Manoa began the year with a unit on the ocean so we thought it might be fun to revisit some of those memories as we plan for another summer of fun in the sun!
Sincerely,
Susan Newcomer, Site Director
Molly O'Neill, Teacher
Manoa Extended Day Program’s After School News
Wow!! This year went by so fast! The staff at Manoa would like to thank our students and their parents for an exciting time.
During the month of April, we spent a lot of time playing on the Manoa playground in the sunshine. During May and June, our students will continue playing kickball, basketball, wall-ball, and climbing on the jungle gyms. If the weather turns sour, we will be playing indoor games like 4 corners and Mastermind, hosting UNO tournaments, and of course having our exciting Friday bingo games.
Our final session of karate began on Wednesday, April 28th, and students will be testing for their next belts! Parents are always welcome to come watch their children during karate class.
Information about May and June activities, crafts, and snacks will be outlined in the monthly calendar that is available at the sign-out table.
Children who are signed up for the school closing package may attend on the following in-service dates:
May 14 – 1/2 day due to in-service
May 18 – Full day due to in-service
Please note that the after-school program is closed to all children on May 31st, Memorial Day.
The last day for the Manoa After-School Program will be Monday, June 21st. There will be no after-school on Tuesday, June 22nd.
Enjoy the upcoming summer vacation! We look forward to seeing you all again next fall!
