Welcome to the Family Support Services website. We believe that it is important for parents to know about and be involved in their child/ren's education, so we post monthly information about classroom and after-school activities.
Radnor Kindergarten Extended Day News
April was a great month at Radnor K-Club! We enjoyed learning about each continent, and the children loved reading the map and pointing to all the different places they have been. We have some real world travelers in our class. The children especially enjoyed learning about Australia from Ms. Maguire. She lived in Wollongong for a semester during college and we spent a week learning about her adventures. What amazing experiences she had!
We sent home our book of the continents so please do make sure you have pulled that out of your child's book bag and taken a look.
We celebrated Earth Day with the Recycled Olympics. We appreciated all the items you sent in. We used them to create games such as a ball toss (using milk cartons and newspaper balls), a bowling game(with juice and soda bottles) and a disk toss (made with container lids). The kids had a great time playing with the "trash" and we also enjoyed a water ice treat. We planted our herbs and will continue to observe them and chart their growth in our plant diary.
May brings us to our study of different animals. We will learn about diverse habitats: the rainforest, the desert, the mountains, and the plains. We plan to examine the different animals that live in each place and learn why they are suited to that climate. Arts and crafts, writing activities, and games will help us to understand these new concepts.
We will be practicing for our end of the year show during May. An invitation to "A year with Frog and Toad" will be coming home. Your children are very excited to show you their acting, singing and dancing skills! Don’t forget to read all the important information we include with the invitation.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or problems you may have.
Sincerely,
Your K-Club Staff—

Radnor Extended Day After School Program News
As the end of the school year grows near, we will be enjoying the warm weather whenever we can, holding most of our activities outside. We are already playing with our new jump ropes and skip-its, and our basketball, baseball and four square activities are clearly the children’s favorites.
Stratego and Chess have been some of our most popular indoor games. Connect Four and Tic-Tac-Toe are also very well liked by the children.
For our Memorial Day projects we plan to design and color our own puzzles and flags. The children love to do puzzles and they will be able to take their puzzle projects home to share with the family at the end of the month. Other crafts include “Color Me” watch bands, velvet bug mini totes, flip flop sandal necklaces and decorated painter’s caps.
Smores have been our favorite afternoon snack. They are delicious and so easy to make in the microwave!
June 18th will be our last day of school. We will enjoy a special end of the year treat and celebrate with a “rocking” end-of-the-year party.
For those families who plan to continue with the afterschool program in the fall, please don't forget to send in your registration forms for the 2010-2011 year. You may mail them directly to the FSS office at 201 South 69th Street, Upper Darby, PA 19082.
If you have any questions about registration please call Ellen McCarel Mays or Dori Levy at 610-352-2839.
This has been a great year; thank you for sharing your children with us. We've enjoyed watching them grow and learn at a very fast pace.
The afternoon staff wishes all of you a very safe and fun summer.
Sincerely,

A Safety Reminder – call when your child is absent
The Radnor classroom number is 610-293-7665. Please remember to call when your child will not be coming on a scheduled day. Whenever a child does not show up as expected, the teacher must devote time to locate him/her so as to be sure he/she is safe. We care about your children—so do let us know whenever we should not expect them to arrive at our after school program.
