Welcome to the Family Support Services website. We believe that it is important for parents to know about and be involved in their child/ren's education, so we post monthly information about classroom and after-school activities.
Wayne Kindergarten Extended Day News
Dear Parents,
At this point the only thing we can say is “Welcome back to school!” We hope everyone enjoyed the snow-cation we had last month!
While the excitement of multiple snow days was fun for everyone, we were still disappointed that we missed a week of doing great Valentine’s Day activities. However, as we move on to discussing the Olympics and the countries that participate in the games we realize there is much to look forward to.
We are spending the next three weeks learning about different countries. Each child will make his/her own passport, complete with a photograph! We plan to keep track of each country we “visit” with a special stamp. At the end of the unit, our parents will be able to see their child’s passport and all of the countries the classroom got to visit!
As part of this unit our children will “travel the world” to learn about different customs, music, art, language, and foods. We’ll be locating each country on a globe and talking about its distance from the United States.
We will end the unit with an International food tasting party. We will also make (and send home) a cookbook with recipes provided by each family.
Please look for a letter regarding our party in your child’s K-Club folder.
In advance - thank you to all the parents who will be helping us with items from different countries. The children love sharing and learning about the world.
Sincerely,
Miss Feldman

Wayne Extended Day After School Program News
Dear Parents,
First let me welcome our newest teacher, Doug Keith; he joined our team during the first week of March. Doug has an extensive background (teaching at Episcopal Academy and at Miss Porter’s school in Connecticut) and we are very excited to have him with us.
We seem to be surviving the winter of 2010 and are looking forward to the first day of spring! Due to the frigid and snowy weather the children have enjoyed a number of indoor craft activities and games, and have been spending much of their time in the gym. As always, there is the Homework Club, in which the children are strongly encouraged to do their homework after a snack and a bit of time to unwind.
Last month we held a Tuesday talent show and we’re planning another this month – only this time on the second Wednesday of the month. All of the children are invited to share their talents with their After School friends. Our last show was a success and the children really seemed to enjoy sharing their flare for both the dramatic and comedic with everyone.
This month we plan to offer a variety of arts and crafts, in addition to organizing a St. Patrick’s Day party on March 17th plus an early modified Easter Egg Hunt.
Given that the month of March is associated with the color green it is time for us at After School to discuss the environment and the importance of recycling within our community. We will begin with having scrap paper recycling bins and encouraging students to recycle as much as possible. After School is going Green!!!
Wayne Elementary will be closed on the following days:
March 4 & 5 – Conferences
March 15 - Inservice Day
March 29-31 – Spring Break
There will still be care on March 4th, 5th, and 15th for those who signed up for the After School Closing Package. PLEASE remember to bring your lunch or anything special you may need for the entire day. We will provide snacks as usual.
After School will close for spring break after 6 PM on March 26th. Classes resume on Monday April 5th. We wish you all a happy and healthy vacation!
When we return I hope there will be plenty of warmer weather and the snow will finally have melted. Thank you for sharing your children with us and cheers to an early SPRING!

A Safety Reminder – call when your child is absent
The Wayne classroom number is 610-293-0338. Please remember to call when your child will not be coming on a scheduled day. Whenever a child does not show up as expected, the teacher must devote time to locate him/her so as to be sure he/she is safe. We care about your children—so do let us know whenever we should not expect them to arrive at our after school program.
